Draw to Drop

Last Thursday I took myself off on a solo trip to Listowel for a coffee and Ballybunion for a sea swim. I was feeling very cooped up in the house and was craving some solitude! When I arrived in Listowel I was wound up. So I parked up near the Listowel Arms Hotel and took out my A5 notebook and a marker and encouraged myself to draw - it had been a while and I did not feel like it. “Okay Steph, just draw what you see. It doesn’t have to be any good. Just observe and let your marker do the rest.“ So I began. I started with an old sash window in front of me. Then a tree . Then an old iron railing with spear tops on it. Slowly I started to come out of my head and back to the here and the now. Remembering once again that drawing helps me to drop below thought. And after a few drawings since this past week, I am inspired to return to a more regular practice.

Drawing above taken from my 2020 drawing notebook.
