SHAPES OF SHAME

A short project completed in May 2025 (maybe part of a future larger series). Working with the bodily experience of shame and oppression in the abstract to capture the energy - and hopefully transform the energy too. Interstingly since doing these paintings, I have come across and am reading a book called The Politics of Trauma by Staci Haines. In it she talks about how in somatics theory, the word ‘shape’ is used to describe '“one’s current embodiment of beliefs, resilience and survival strategies, habits and actions”. And that “we are shaped by and embody the social conditions we live in”.

Don't let on

Don’t Let On

Even in the Womb

Occupied Mind

Locked Out
