Punk Sheela: Wild Creative Woman

Punk Sheela na Gig made in clay and painted (Steph Sheahan)

I have been dipping into the energy of Sheela na Gig these past few months. For me, Sheela is a punk energy. She doesn’t give a shit about what people think of her. She doesn’t concern herself with whether she appears beautiful or acceptable. She doesn’t concern herself with how she appears at all. Instead she is connected deeply to the vastness of her vulva and her womb space. She rises rooted from there and gives herself permission to be the fullest expression of herself.

She is a wild creative woman and is an inspiration for me. Earlier in the year I created this short piece. I create a lot of music and poetry through a process of channelling and improvisation - often through the collaboration with my partner Liam, who often composes the music. For this piece below, it’s just my voice. A short piece to start with - more coming!

I am an endangered species

I'm a wild creative woman.

It really does feel like to be wild and creative and feminine these days is in great danger of extinction. It can feel like pushing up against a huge collective of conditioned convention, built on a very unhealthy foundation of capitalism and patriarchy. Sheela has never been so needed.
