Design Work: ar ais arís
I can have the tendency sometimes to get into binary thinking and throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak. What I mean is: I started out as a designer, studying it at NCAD and setting up my own business in my mid twenties as a graphic designer and product designer. I was always drawn to business, doing it in school and later completing a masters in Business and Entrepreneurship. I used to love those words, ‘business’ and ‘entrepreneurship’. But in the last few years I have kind of shunned them. I think I got disillusioned with the billionaires destroying our beautiful planet for the sake of business, expansion, extraction and growth above all else. The foundations of the masters I did were built on patriarchal and capitalist structures that never sat right with me, but at the time I didn’t have the words for.
So I decided that I wanted nothing to do with it. But what about all the good people doing good things with the work they do and the businesses they create? I want to work with these people! Recent design projects like working on my brother’s branding and website for his business Body & Wisdom and the ‘What if we were Brilliant?’ book, have restored my interest in, and appreciation for, design to support and elevate the voices and work that matter.
With the help of some mentorship, I am getting clearer on my offerings in this area and how I can bring my gifts to the world. I am now welcoming in design work (again) but this time with more intention.
I love to work with visionaries in the creative, cultural, food and wellbeing spheres who are in the process of bravely bringing their gifts to the world and making a positive contribution.. It gives me great satisfaction to help bring people’s vision to life through thoughtful and inspiring design and business mentorship.
So do get in touch if you have an idea that you would like help teasing out and making tangible. Or feel free to pass this on to who might think could be interested.
